How Does The Program Work?
After your class or school purchases a WalkSmart!™ Active Schools subscription, students can register online using your designated “Teacher Account Number.” They can complete a personal profile that captures activity data and dietary habits.
- On the first day of the program, students receive a digital pedometer (supplied or purchased by the school) and they begin to record their steps at the end of each day on the WalkSmart! Active Schools website.
- An individualized ADST (Average Daily Step Total) is established at the end of the first week and a new daily step goal is set every other week, as students progress through the program.

- As students log in their actual daily steps each day, they are also traveling on a “virtual walk” that the teacher has pre-selected. Each virtual walk contains colorful maps and educational milestones where students can learn about history, geography or social studies. Students receive personalized certificates as they achieve certain step totals and can record their experiences in an online journal.
- Teachers appreciate the convenient “anywhere, anytime” access to the site for monitoring activity time, steps, goals – by student, class or grade. Standard reports can be printed to document the impact of the program on overall student activity levels.
Best of all…it’s fun for everyone!
